The service at Pearl Bazaar is exemplary in comparison to others. I was helped by Kamee, who patiently showed me a selection of jewelry and then left me to browse, without pressuring me to purchase anything. There are strands of beads for purchase, and I particularly liked the crystal ones. I'll definitely be making a return trip- especially because there is such a wide variety of items and cute gift boxes.
On Grant St., there are tons of jewelry stores, and I'm very happy to find Pearl Bazaar. I was looking for beads to make my gemstone bracelet. Betty who is store owner's wife was very helpful and kind. I told her my budget, and she suggested right stones to fit in my budget and made it like the design which I showed. It was very comfortable and fun time.
She also gave me coupon. I will definitely come back when I need beads !
*Note: I'm a little confused by the multiple business info on their business card, because the address/phone number associated with this Yelp listing is on the card under "Grace" while the address 544 Grant Ave and the phone number 982-2717 is listed without a subtitle.
So, Grant is littered with jewelry/bead shops that usually cater to hordes of tourists. I was looking for some beads to use in making jewelry, and most of the shops were driving me away with their ridiculous prices. Most of the shops were also nearly identical in their offerings, and after visiting about 8 shops with nothing new, I was getting tired. But I entered Pearl Bazaar and was surprised to find prices that were quite reasonable and more jewelry supplies than the other shops. My favorite part was that they had mixed-bead bags - I love buying beads that way because of the great assortments available at a bargain. But they also had a nice range of focal pieces and charms, along with plenty of full-length strands that were on a buy-one-get-one-free sale! The people working there were helpful but not overbearing (some ladies at other jewelry shops seem completely unable leave you alone to browse...) and I do think there's a certain amount of haggling possible, as long as you're reasonable. Overall, I came away with some great beads and charms, and I'll definitely drop by again if I have the chance!
Debbie helped me with another jade necklace. The jade pieces are commodities, but she was helpful in finding a nice chain in my budget. Thanks Debbie.
Great service. Lady who helped me out spoke very good English, which is not a given in Chinatown. We haggled and she gave me a good price on a ring. Will plan to return.
